Our story

Founded by an engineer with a single obsession.

Al Qustas was founded in Sharjah in 1990 by a mechanical engineer who had spent his early career studying the inner workings of automatic gearboxes. Where others saw a mysterious sealed unit, he saw a system of valves, hydraulics and electronics that could be understood, diagnosed and put right.

That focus has never shifted. Three and a half decades on, Al Qustas remains an independent, owner-led workshop. We don’t branch out into engines, suspension, paintwork or anything else. Drivers come to us when something is wrong with the transmission — and they come from across the UAE because the work is worth the trip.

Today the workshop handles every kind of automatic system on the road: traditional planetary boxes, CVTs, dual-clutch units, modern eight- and ten-speed transmissions in family cars, fleet vehicles, 4WDs and performance builds. Same focus, broader knowledge.

What guides the workshop

Four principles, applied to every job.

The way a workshop operates says more about it than any marketing copy. These are the standards we hold ourselves to — not because they sound good, but because the work demands them.

01

Specialists by choice

Most workshops repair anything that comes through the door. We don’t. Concentrating on one system means we recognise patterns generalists miss — and we never learn anything by accident.

02

Engineering first

The workshop was founded by a mechanical engineer and still operates that way. Diagnosis is methodical, parts are matched to specification, and shortcuts that mask symptoms are not on the table.

03

Honest before fast

A clear written quote, in plain language, before any work starts. If a transmission can be repaired we’ll repair it; if a service is enough we’ll say so. The cheaper, simpler answer is often the right one.

04

Backed in writing

Every repair, rebuild and service leaves the workshop with a written warranty. That’s not a marketing line — it’s the document we hand you, signed, with the keys.

Inside the workshop

A small team, deep in the same craft.

Walk into the workshop and you’ll find what a transmission specialist looks like in practice: stripped valve bodies on the bench, planetary sets laid out cleanly, scan tools running live data alongside a road-tested vehicle. No corners cut, no guesswork.

  • Diagnosis on real data

Professional scan tools, road testing under load, and stationary checks — combined, not used in isolation.

  • OEM and updated parts

Genuine components where they belong; updated revisions where the manufacturer has improved a known weakness.

  • Clean, methodical builds

Every rebuild is photographed, measured and documented. You leave knowing exactly what was done, with parts and torque values on paper.

  • One point of contact

You’ll deal with the same people from diagnosis through delivery. No service-advisor middlemen, no message-relayed updates.

Visit the workshop

Bring the car in. We’ll tell you what’s actually wrong.

Walk-in diagnosis is welcome, and most assessments are completed the same day. You leave with a written quote in plain language — or, if nothing’s wrong, with peace of mind and no charge.
